Raised Embroidery Kit
The embroidery design measures 10cm x 12cm wide (4” x 4 3/4”).
Ripe for Picking features a Major Mitchell cockatoo eyeing off a bunch of ripe grapes. The embroidery is stitched onto ice blue silk fabric with stranded silk threads. The dimensional embroidery is created with a variety of techniques such as needle lace, picots and wrapped beads.
The embroidery kit includes all materials needed to complete the design. You have option to transfer the design yourself using the full-size pattern in the Standard Kit or a Traced Kit where I will trace the design onto the silk for you.

YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
25cm x 20cm wide (10” x 8”) stretcher frame and thumbtacks - (OR 22cm (9”) embroidery hoop, both rings bound)
10cm (4”) embroidery hoop, inner ring bound
Light-coloured sewing thread
Tweezers or small pliers
Fine-tip fabric marker or fine mechanical pencil
Small piece of tissue paper
Low tack sticky tape

Ripe for Picking is embroidered using a small range of intricate embroidery stitches and raised embroidery techniques. Experience in raised embroidery is not essential, but I recommend you are confident with fine work and general embroidery stitches.
We have so many different cockatoos in Australia. They are all beautiful, but one of the more striking ones is the pink Major Mitchell Cockatoo with its colourful banded crest
The design is embroidered using silk threads with silver metallic thread for the wire that holds the vine. The cockatoo’s body is padded with felt and covered with needle lace. The head, wing and tail are embroidered seperately before being attached to the main embroidery and the striking crest is stitched using needlweaving and picots to achieve a 3D effect. The ripe grapes are created by wrapping wooden beads with fine silk thread.
