Brother Rabbit is good project if you have a bit of experience in raised embroidery and are looking for a challenge to further develop your skills.
The idea for this little rabbit was largely inspired by the ‘Brer Rabbit’ pattern by William Morris. I was curious to see how my Brother Rabbit would look if I embroidered it in raised embroidery techniques and placed him nestled under shady leaves and fantastical flowers inspired by crewel embroidery designs. Raised embriodery is one of my favourite embroidery techniques because it offers you the opportunity to explore a multitude of stitch techniques to create texture and 3-dimensional effects. It is exciting to make an image ‘pop’ from your fabric simply by the choice of stitches and a bit of padding a wire.
Despite its humble size, this little project uses a wide selection of techniques. The detailed instructions and diagrams will help guide you but you may find it handy to have a good stitch directory at hand – I always do.
I hope you will get as much pleasure embroidering your version of BROTHER RABBIT , as I enjoyed designing it. ~ Anna
